Fylde Chapter have enjoyed a remarkable influx of new and joining members over the past five years, and in an attempt to cement new and promote existing friendships, Director of Ceremonies John Lee, took it upon himself, to arrange an informal social event at a nearby bowling alley, followed by a sumptuous meal, at a local Italian restaurant.
He had secured four bowling lanes, and over twenty players, and with a blink of an eye, the evening was soon underway. Amidst the fun and laughter, were a number of very competitive players, all striving to get in to that infamous “100 club”. There were prizes for the highest scoring male and female, and to maintain interest for those less competitive, for the lowest scoring male and female.
The two hours of play was soon over and the scores were in. The winners would be announced at Mimmos Italian Restaurant where nearly 30 people enjoyed a fabulous meal in fantastic surroundings.
There was a real buzz in the air. Everybody was smiling, chatting, and above all, laughing. The break before the November Convocation and the March Installation had been filled with the perfect opportunity to please each other, and it had the desired effect of communicating happiness to all in attendance.
After consuming garlic bread, mushrooms, pasta, pizza and fillet steaks it was time to announce those very lucky winners. John Lee and Ann Baxter took the highest scores with Geoff Diggles and Bernie Gardner displaying humility in all its finery. In fact, Ann broke the “150 club” which should surely have led to a stewards inquiry?
First Principal of the Chapter, Glen Jackson, thanked all in attendance for what had been an excellent occasion. With four new companions to be exalted and several joining members in the wings, he intimated that events we enjoyed outside the Chapter would continue to shape and support what work we did within it. From what he had seen, the future was exceptionally bright. He thanked John Lee for putting the evening together, and closed by saying, he would see everybody again in twelve months time.
