North Fylde Steps out in style

A fantastic evening was enjoyed at the 49th North Fylde Group ball, the first with Peter Greathead, Tony Hough and John Cross at the helm. Previous years had set a high standard and this year did not disappoint with the ball being held at the Grand Hotel Blackpool (formerly the Hilton) for the first time.

During the first part of the evening, Peter Greathead and his partner Sue Bruce hosted a reception for the installed masters, principals and group officers.

Included in these numbers were many distinguished guests including, Councillor Marge Anderton Mayor of Wyre, Wendy Groves Mayoress of Wyre, Lily Henderson, Jan Barker Deputy Fylde Mayor and this year’s principal guest Harry Cox accompanied by his wife Carol, David and Anne Randerson, Duncan Smith and Karen Moore.

The Ball was attended by over 300 Masons, their family, friends and distinguished guests, the Grand Hotel ballroom was a fabulous backdrop to the evening with the tables suitably decked out with candles representing the colours of the Craft and Royal Arch. The three course banquet was started by John Cross saying grace and between each course the members of the organising committee entertained the guest by playing games like bingo and Hoss and Gloss (you had to be there to understand)!

Peter Greathead gave thanks to all those who attended the evening for their generosity, announcing that all money raised would go the 2021 Masonic Charitable Foundation.

Harry Cox responded by thanking Peter Greathead and saying that this was a fantastic evening and what a great job he and his team are doing within the North Fylde Group. Harry remarked that he had attended many group balls, saying that the organising committee had worked incredibly hard in getting over 300 people to attend. Harry continued his response with many musings about getting older and thanking his wife Carol for all the support that she had given him throughout his Masonic career.

During the evening the guests were entertained with the sounds of Sixteen Men Swinging, a local big band and to finish the evening there was a DJ entertaining the revellers until the small hours of Sunday morning and, as the final songs were being played for the 49th Group Ball everyone was saying how much they had enjoyed it and roll on the 50th Group Ball on Saturday 18th April 2020.

The organising committee headed by Ralph Miller included Mike Brown, John Farrell and Peter Clay and everyone who had helped should be justly proud of the hard work that they put into the evening.
