The installation of Ashton Jarvis as the new master of Bispham-with-Norbreck Lodge No 4731 took place at Cleveleys Masonic Hall and the principal guest on the occasion was Assistant Provincial Grand Master Robert Wright, supported by North Fylde Group Chairman Duncan Smith and group vice chairman Peter Greathead, together with acting Provincial grand officers Gordon Ivett, Paul Hardman, Malcolm Sandwell and Liam Mawdsley.
With the regular lodge business dispatched by the master of the lodge Gordon Major, it was time for the director of ceremonies Andrew Stansfield to welcome into the lodge Robert Wright and his distinguished colleagues. Robert was offered the gavel of the lodge which he swiftly returned. After the usual salutations, it was then time to install the master elect Ashton Jarvis. Master of the lodge Gordon proceeded to invite John Morris to act as installing senior warden, John Whitley to act as installing junior warden and Allan Ferguson to act as installing inner guard. The master elect was presented in an excellent manner by Peter Gratrix.
Ashton Jarvis was ably and sincerely installed by Gordon Major and the working tools were particularly well presented by Neil Drummond, Steve Willingham and Mark Spragg. Peter Gratrix then delivered the address to Ashton, which he followed by addresses to the wardens and the address to the brethren of the lodge brethren was given by Robert Wright.
At the conclusion of the installation, Robert congratulated Gordon on the manner in which he had installed Ashton and expressed his wish for the master to have a happy and healthy year in office.
On behalf of the lodge, Ashton presented Robert with cheques to the value of £1,140. The recipients were; £450 to West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £350 to Brian House Children’s Hospice, £300 to the Masonic Tercentenary Fund, £20 to the Masonic Golf Charity and £20 to the Masonic Bowling Society. In turn Robert, on behalf of the recipients, thanked the members of the lodge for their generosity.
The brethren enjoyed a sumptuous festive board at which the toast to the newly made master was given by Gordon Major. The master’s song was rendered by John Kitchener, ably accompanied by Malcolm Burrill.
At the conclusion of a wonderful evening, the final toast was given by the Provincial Grand Tyler Gordon Ivett.
