Over 40 brethren gathered at Cleveleys Masonic Hall to witness Brian Coulter being installed into the chair of Wayfarers Lodge No 7544. On a previous occasion, Brian had been the master of Wyre Lodge No 7704, based at Fleetwood.
The lodge was honoured to receive Assistant Provincial Grand Master Harry Cox, supported by North Fylde Group Chairman Duncan Smith, group vice chairman Peter Greathead, together with acting Provincial grand officer Daren Gardner.
With the regular lodge business swiftly dispatched, it was time to install the master elect. Master of the lodge Ron Senior proceeded to invite Frank Kennedy to act as installing senior warden, Jonathan Slee to act as installing junior warden and David Thornton to act as installing inner guard. The master elect was presented by David Thornton.
Brian Coulter was ably and sincerely installed by Ron Senior, assisted by Ian Hawtin, and the working tools were particularly well presented by Joseph Ayrton, Keith Senior and Peter Gaudion. Frank Kennedy delivered a flawless address to Brian, and immediately afterwards James Anderson, who had sojourned from France to be present, stood to deliver the rarely heard installation ode, entitled ‘Be Thou Faithful’. It was unaccompanied and was a moving and memorable rendition. This was followed by addresses to the wardens by Duncan Smith, to the deacons by David Thornton, to the stewards by Darren Varley, and finally to the brethren by Harry Cox.
At the conclusion of the installation Harry congratulated Ron on the manner in which he had installed Brian and expressed his wish for the master to have a happy and healthy year in office.
On behalf of the lodge, Brian presented Harry with several cheques for charities with a magnificent combined total of £5,700, including £3,000 to Brian House Children’s Hospice and £1,000 to the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival. Harry thanked the brethren for their generosity on behalf of the numerous recipients.
The installation having ended and the lodge duly closed, the brethren retired to the dining suite to enjoy a superb festive board, at which a raffle raised £427. The newly installed master also launched his own ‘BIG’ (Brain Injury Group) raffle draw. Sales of tickets for this will continue until October, the first prize being seven nights for four people in a magnificent villa in Costa Blanca, Spain.
The toast to the newly made master was given by Ron Senior and the master’s song was rendered by James Anderson. At the conclusion of a splendid evening the tyler’s toast was given by Gordon Ivett.
